Getaway House in the Catskills Review
Have you ever just wanted to “getaway” without really having any true plans? Do you just need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city? Do you simply need some time to disconnect and relax? Are you a writer, artist, or overwhelmed parents who could use a retreat to rejuvenate yourself? Well, if any of that sounds like you, then Getaway House is perfect for you! No seriously, Getaway House is perfect for almost anyone and you can make the trip into whatever you want. At Getaway House, they believe “that free time should be a right and a ritual for everyone”. So here is our honest and raw Catskills Getaway House Review and how you can book your getaway too!
Getaway House Locations
We stayed at the Eastern Catskills Getaway House which was a short 2 hour drive north of NYC. They also have a Western Catskills location too. The good thing is that no matter where you are, they have a location about 2 hours from every major city.
Here is a quick list of the outposts they currently offer:
- Boston, Washington DC, New York City, Atlanta, Portland, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Charlotte, Raleigh, Chicago, Nashville, and Kansas City.
The Cabins
The cabins are perfectly sized for 2-4 people which makes sense since they offer 1 bed or 2 bed cabins. The cabins themselves are about 200 square feet so they aren’t huge but they make very good use of space. I mean, if we can do it with 2 dogs and a baby, so can you!
The cabins come with a shower, toilet, stove, sink, cookware (including salt & pepper), linens, towels, shower products, fire pit, seating outside and our favorite, the cellphone lock box. The cabins themselves are separated from others on the property but others are staying around you.
Things to Know
The outposts do have water however specifically the Catskills Getaway House locations run off limited supply of 150 gallons which according to their website should last 4 days. It will be more than enough water if you’re just staying the weekend like we did. One thing to note is the hot water does last about 5 minutes so Gabriel and I waited 30 minutes between each other to shower.
They are pet friendly with a small fee and the cabins provide dog bowls for your pups. Our dogs loved looking out the big windows at the squirrels and playing in the snow right outside our door. We even went for a little hike with them too!
If you do forget to pack something, they offer provisions available for purchase with everything from firewood to a s’mores making kit.
Our Getaway House Review
Arrival:
As mentioned above, the Catskills Getaway House was a short 2 hour drive north of NYC. We left after work on Friday so we did get there a little later than anticipated but Getaway House was super helpful in planning. Not only do they text you in advance of your trip with which cabin you will be staying in, an address to the exact location, and include a map; they also ask if you are expected to arrive a little later than normal so they could leave a light on for you. We let them know we would be arriving around 7 with our dogs and baby and they were more than helpful and accommodating.
What Did We Pack:
For food, we packed hamburgers and hotdogs with some veggies for dinner and lunch while we packed bagels for breakfast. Oh and who couldn’t forget snacks! Since there was about a foot of snow outside, we cooked everything inside on the stove which worked out perfectly. They provided a pan and a pot to cook in which worked exactly for our meal plus there was a kettle to make pour over coffee or to use as hot water for tea. For drinks we packed coffee, water, breastmilk for Dominic, and of course wine for us!
Clothing wise, we recommend to keep it light. We wore lounge wear most weekend other than the hike we went on. Since we had about a foot of snow outside, we did layer up for our hike but you don’t need to worry about layers inside since there is heat/AC.
What Did We Do:
We spent the 1st night listening to music and just chatting the night away. Dominic went to sleep in his bassinet while we stayed up and snuggled with the dogs. Saturday morning we took our time waking up but once we did, we got the whole family bundled up and went for a walk around the property since we were pretty much snowed in. This was perfect for us since we didn’t know how Dominic would be for his first hike. He was a champ and we honestly could have gone on a much longer hike with him. Good thing to know for future trips is that there are many hiking trails nearby. In the afternoon we showered and warmed up inside while snuggling some more and reading a book. Then we spent our 2nd night pretty much like the first but it was just the perfect relaxing weekend that we needed.
Overall Getaway House Review:
This weekend was exactly what we needed. We will 100% be coming back! Whether we go back to the Catskills Getaway House or we try another location, we loved our time getting away and can’t wait to do it again!
They actually have a program called the “Getaway Often Club” where for every 7 nights you stay, they give you a free night! The best part about this is that you don’t even need to sign up for it. You are automatically enrolled when you book your first stay and when you get your free night, it is automatically applied in your check out!
