How to Get Through Long Days of Traveling

Complete the sentence as it relates to traveling: “I cannot begin my day or get through the day without ______________.”

For some of us, the answer is coffee. Others would say working out. A few might even say mapping out the day. 

Whatever your immediate answer is, there is a core reason to why you immediately answered the way you did. For us, we are all about making the most of the time we have by moving quickly to see as much as possible. With that mindset, our go to responses were:

“We cannot begin our day or get through the day without food or caffeine.”

As you may remember from reading our other blog post regarding saving money, we would rather spend more time sight seeing then sitting at a restaurant. Don’t get us wrong, we certainly make time in advance to plan out one restaurant pitstop. However, we want to see as much as possible which requires energy. 

For our 1st visit to Europe, we spent 14 hours in London, 17 hours in Madrid, 20 hours in Barcelona and 48 hours in Ibiza.

For our 2nd trip this past winter, we spent 36 hours in Manchester, 37 hours in Cologne, 60 hours in Zurich, 54 in Paris, 36 hours in Amsterdam, and 24 hours in Brussels.

Some of you might think we are crazy with all the traveling and minimum time you see the area but it works for us. We like seeing more and planning ahead to move quickly. Not to mention, Courtney is an excellent planner, so we had things mapped out by the hour of what we were going to do (as well as backup plans in case there were delays). 

When it comes to sleep, knowing us we need a minimum of six hours of sleep to function each day (Courtney would argue she needs eight hours per her dad’s teachings), BUT I hope you now see why food and caffeine are a must to get through the day. 

For us, Arbonne Protein Bars and Arbonne Fizz Sticks saved us plenty of time and helped us get through the day to sightsee.

I would highly recommend packing a box of really ANY protein bars for your travels but we chose Arbonne based on the ingredients in all their products. We ate a lemon flavored protein bar once or twice a day to curb our appetite and held us over for the larger meals. Also, if you are like us and want a healthier snack option, this is certainly the way to go. There are a lot of protein bars out there that advertise high protein and a healthy option. However, when you begin to read the nutrition facts, it can rather be a candy bar then a healthy snack. For us, we packed the Lemon Glazed Protein bars. In each bar, you can expect:

  • 10 grams of plant-based protein
  • 190 calories per serving
  • 3 grams of fiber
  • Certified Gluten-Free, Vegan, Non-GMO, and certified Kosher
  • Pitch to Passport rated 12 out of 10 in taste

Now, imagine you are in Barcelona on the timetable we stated above. If you want to see a good amount of the city, you are either paying a few cab trips OR you are walking. We decided to walk and realized by the end of the night we had traveled over 17 miles by foot! As you can imagine, there were points were our legs were moving a bit slower then we would have liked. Court’s Compartment Syndrome didn’t help there but before our trip, we purchased SEVERAL boxes of Arbonne Energy Fizz Sticks to pour in our waters for scenarios just like this. 

There’s no need to worry if you are sensitive to caffeine, as these only have 55 mg of caffeine in each packet. That’s comparable to a soda, tea, or even 1 cup of coffee! Depending on the day, you might only need half a packet and would immediately feel a difference. Courtney and I usually have 2 Fizz Sticks in a day just for reference since we are always on the go!

Fatigued no more and our legs were picking up the speed! 😊

GQ tip with the two products:

  • ANY protein bars are in no way a meal replacement and I am not recommending skipping meals. However, if you eat a meal at noon and the next time you are going to eat is sometime after 5pm, I’ll typically eat a bar around 3pm or 4pm to extend my dinner time to 7pm or 8pm. 
  • We typically buy our packets in bulk. Each box of Fizz Sticks has 30 servings. If we are going on a trip for 2 weeks, that’s 2 Fizz Sticks per person, per day. For 30 Fizz Sticks, they come out to $44 for 30 servings. Do the quick math. Roughly $1.46 per stick. Now trust me, I love a good coffee or espresso overseas. However, save some money and get the same energy level by substituting that morning coffee with a packet. You can also get your morning coffee at a cafe while using the packets in the afternoon to keep you moving! That is typically how we use them!

Go on, try it out. These two items single handedly saved us time and helped us see everything we wanted to during our trip. Hanger and crankiness, for us at least, can kill a mood quickly. No one has time for a bad attitude.
