How We Booked Campsites with Hipcamp
With the global pandemic, the way people have traveled has changed. Previously, people would normally not think twice about hopping on a plane and joining the crowds. Now many, us included, want to go on road trips and camp remotely where they won’t run into anyone. Hipcamp is the perfect place to find these campsites and that is EXACTLY why we booked with Hipcamp!
Now, there are many different ways you can camp. You can go through your State Park or National Park sites to book. You can also go “off the grid” and camp on free land with the Bureau of Land Management. We actually did that a lot when we were on our cross country trip!
The most unique way we have found to book a campsite is through through Hipcamp, the “AirBnB” of camping!
Hipcamp has different options when selecting the type of camping experience you want. You can actually see the campsite and read reviews before planning your trip is what made the decision so easy for us to pick Hipcamp!
Obviously we travel with our dogs so finding a pet-friendly place to camp was important. Another important thing for us was a secluded site to have minimal contact with others while we explored the outdoors. We were able to find that and so much more when booking our Hipcamp!
Seriously, finding the perfect campsites with Hipcamp was easy!
Wyo Farm Field Camping
The first location we camped at was Wyo Farm’s field campsite. Not too far away from New York City, this was a GREAT destination to go camping! To start, let me say how awesome it was to camp on a farm! Not only did this Hipcamp have primitive campsites like where we stayed but they also had some more luxury sites if you wanted to have a more “premium rustic” feel to your adventure!
Check-in was easy. The directions led you right to where you would park and there were plenty of signs giving you directions to your campsite. They even had wagons that you could load up with your stuff and take it to your spot!
(I only wish we had found that when we arrived and not when we were leaving! LOL)
Once our tent was up, we could hear wildlife and stare at the stars. You could also see some firepits from other campers and hear them giggling the night away as they made memories of their own. The outdoors was just *that quiet* that we could hear and see all of that but yet we know we were far away!
It’s crazy to think that there were so many other campsites and yet we were so far away from everyone. You can see in the picture above the closest tent to us was next to Gabriel’s head on the left and the common bathing/shower area is to the right.
The next morning, were woken up by some roosters but I guess that’s what comes with camping on a farm with animals! The dogs might have been slightly terrified of the cows on the property but overall, they enjoyed the trip just as much as us!
Feel Good Farm Camping
From there we got on the road and drove north to Vermont. Our next campsite with Hipcamp was Feel Good Farm Camping.
Once we arrived after a gorgeous drive through the mountains, we checked in with the kindest woman who gave us further directions to our campsite and some firewood! With new directions, we drove off around the corner to a football field’s length away. We could barely see the house or any of the other campers from our spot. We loved how secluded this campsite was!
Right away, Gabriel took the wood and got started on a fire while I got started on the tent. We had to act quickly as a storm was rapidly approaching. The tent went up pretty quickly actually. Our concern quickly went to the fire we were trying to make. Every time we had the fire going, a huge gust of wind would come in and blow it out.
We eventually got it under control but then the rain started. That’s when we knew we would need to use our trusty Coleman Butane Stovetop to cook some hotdogs and hamburgers fast! We actually ended up using the case to protect the stove from the wind.
We cooked dinner, packed it all up and jumped into the tent with the dogs. At this point, we knew it was going to be an interesting night. We cracked open one of the local beers we picked up earlier, turned on some jam band radio on Spotify and settled in for the night.
Oh boy I wish the story ended there but you can see the full video recap of our camping experience in a storm on our YouTube channel.
Outside of the storm, which was out of our control, this was an amazing campsite and we will for sure return. If anything, we made so many memories and can say we are “professional campers” after that experience!
