The times we are living in are rough and we can all use a break, especially now. With a global pandemic and overall concerns for most when traveling, we wanted to compile a list of our favorite ways to simply, getaway!
1.) Camping
While camping is not everyone’s cup of tea, camping is our favorite way to get away and social distance! You can use your traditional tent or even convert your car into a sleeping oasis. I mean, if we can do that with 2 dogs, you can too!
Key items you will need:
- Tent – We’ve had a tent for a few years now so we didn’t need to purchase one but we have linked a few favorites below!
- Blankets – We use what we had at home so again, cost savings!
- Stove Top – We HIGHLY recommend getting this $30 portable butane stove top. We cooked so many yummy and healthy meals on this that we can’t wait to take this little guy tailgating with us when sports open back up too!
- Lanterns – We originally brought flashlights with us but we ended up using these lanterns more. When we bought them, they were on sale but I think I would get them no matter the cost because they are so little but soooo powerful!
- Chairs – We brought our beach chairs with us as they fold flat but camping chairs work just fine if that’s what you have at home! We linked a few below too!
Now that you know some of the items you will need, where do you find camping spots? Below are a list of a few of our favorite apps and websites to find campgrounds!
- Campendium – Our favorite to find campsites
- The Dyrt – Our favorite to find BLM & USFS campsites
- Hipcamp – Combo of traditional/glamping campsites
- Tentrr – Glamping campsites
- Reserve America – The HQ of all campsites
As mentioned above, below are a few links to our must have camping items to make it as seamless of an experience as possible! Our full Amazon page has links to everything that we use while camping too!
2.) AirBnB
For those who do not want to camp, AirBnB is really a great option! We have actually stayed in a few places all across the country and felt safe every time. Most places had hand sanitizer there for us to keep and even made sure to mention to use prior to booking of the cleaning precautions they were taking. Some places are actually requiring 2 days in between each group that rents so that there is amble time for the cleaning to take place.
The other part about this that we love is that if we are not comfortable for any reason, we can contact our host OR AirBnB directly to take action. Luckily our hosts have always been super helpful and even made sure that we had everything we possibly could need.
Also, if you have never booked on AirBnB before, you can sign up through this link and automatically get up to $65 OFF your first booking!
3.) RV Rental
Now this one goes back to the camping aspect but ties in that AirBnB feel. You can rent an RV or Camper Van directly through Outdoorsy.com! This way you can “go off the grid” and socially distance while still having the luxury of being “home”.
I can honestly say that if we were to ever get our mom’s to join us on a camping trip, we would have to rent an RV but for them to experience what we love – it’s worth it!
Similarly to the AirBnB link above, if you sign up for Outdoorsy and book through this link, you will automatically get $50 off your first booking!
So you booked your RV, where do you park it now? Head back up to the camping section and look at the sites we listed for camping and you can sort through options that will fit your RV size and let you know if there are power hook-ups, dump sites, and water stations at the campground. These are all important things to know when traveling with an RV!
4.) Hotel
When we book hotels, we usually go 1 of 2 routes.
These are our bread and butter and we love them for SO many reasons but our favorite is that you can sort through luxury hotels and see pictures and reviews before purchasing. This is so key.
Because of being able to read reviews and see the pictures, we can validate the spend on a nice hotel. The amazing deals that we get by using either of the two websites, lets you know that are worth the money!
The best part about staying at a really nice hotel/resort is that you get what you pay for. Even if you have a huge savings when booking, you are still booking a really great place. Plain and simple.
This is EXTREMELY important especially during COVID where you want to ensure the hotels are following the proper protocols. You can read reviews and see the pictures of where you will be staying. We also recommend you call the hotel before you book to find out what their protocols are exactly. This made us feel so safe when booking hotels across the country.
Booking.com5.) Stay-cation from your home
Finally, our easy stay at home getaway!
Now, maybe you really don’t want to see people or maybe you want to just kick it from your couch! Either way, below are a few ideas of how you can make your weekend at home a magical adventure!
- Build a pillow fort in the living room and have a movie night
- Create your own “Wine Tasting” by having each room in your house or every table in your apartment a different country or region of wine
- Have a “Take Out Night” and order from 2-3 of your favorite take out places and have your own food tasting
- Play board games or do a puzzle
- Stream a concert or set by your favorite artist and get dressed up as if you are actually there
- My personal favorite is when you surprise your significant other with a “Fake Boarding Pass” and take him/her to a new destination. You can read all about that here!
Really, the possibilities are endless and open for your own imagination!
Drop a comment below which one you are the most excited to do! 🙂
